The longer you look at an object, the more abstract it becomes, and, ironically, the more real.” Lucian Freud.

I sit at a clean canvas, with my imagination, oils, brushes, knife and fingers ready to start work. I have an idea, and I start to paint. My head is telling my hands what to do, but sometimes my head changes so I delete and start again and so it goes until I’m happy with my work. Then, in a moment of spontaneity, I use a palette knife to cover the whole canvas in random strokes. This act is not just a random gesture, but a deliberate step to break free from the constraints of my initial idea, allowing my feelings to guide the creation. I see something like a photo, an image, and I follow my feelings. I may have wanted to paint a nude but end up painting one of my Eggs or Pizza Queen.
